Mayfly Competition Sunday 15th May on Lough Arrow

Lough Arrow trout on buzzer, gnat and dapped mayfly
Good hatches of Mayfly have now been observed on Lough Arrow, with several fish reported to have been caught by anglers dapping natural flies and others catching fish on the spent gnat. Late evening buzzer fishing remains productive, with the best fish of the week taken by Peter Dunne on a Buzzer, a fine 5.5lbs trout; in addition Peter had another four trout to the Buzzer averaging 3lbs. While dapping green Mayflies, David Frazer had one trout of 2lbs, Jonathan Frazer had five in total, with his best 2.5lbs while Ken Murray boated four trout. Gerry Martin had great success on the spent gnat, boating five trout. Lough Arrow Fish Preservation Association and District Angling Club will host its annual Mayfly Competition on Sunday the 15th May, for entry or further details please contact J.Frazer on 087 2670768.

All are invited to work off all those chocolate calories while having fun hunting down a series of large "Easter Eggs" located around the Park on Easter Sunday afternoon the 24th April. Each "Easter Egg" indicates where a fun challenge has been set out for each group to "crack"!! Groups that successfully crack each Easter Egg challenge will then be awarded a small prize. Boyle and District Angling Club will hold an open Mayfly competition on Lough Key for the Olbert Memorial Perpetual Cup. The competition will take place over two days, on Saturday 15th May and Sunday 16th May. Fishing on Saturday will commence at 11am until 10pm and Sunday from 11 am until 8pm. Entries will be taken at the Doon Shore on Saturday morning between 10am and 11am. Entry fee is €20 per angler. The presentation will take place in Wynnes lounge, Boyle on Sunday evening. Boyle Arts Festival is now accepting original unpublished one-act plays with a maximum length of 15 minutes from amateur playwrights/directors and actors for its inaugural Brass Shillelagh Drama Award. Five winning finalists will be selected to perform on the night of Saturday 31st July during the Boyle Arts Festival. You will be required to stage the play with your own cast and need to have your own props. On the final night of Boyle Arts Festival an overall winner will be selected based on the performance and the transformation from script to stage. By using your own cast, you can realize and perfect your vision. The big occasion of the year, for Boyle GAA Club, has finally arrived with the official opening of our new Clubrooms on Saturday next. This will be the Club's Lá na gClub for 2010 and admission is free. The day will commence at 2pm with exhibition games by our Under 12 girls and boys, followed by the under 8s at 2.30. There will be a senior ladies game between Boyle and Tulsk at 3pm. The official opening will take place at 4pm and it will be jointly performed by John Joe Nerney and Gerry O'Malley, followed by the blessing by Canon Gerry Hanley. The programme will conclude with a senior intercounty football challenge at 5pm between Fergal O'Donnell's Roscommon and Clare. There will be an Under 10 boys and girls football exhibition at half time in the big game. Boyle Marching Band will provide entertainment during the afternoon. The day/night will conclude with a celebration social in the Royal Hotel at 10pm-again with free admission. Music will be provided by Michael McDonald and medals will be presented to the Boyle team which won the Division 4 League last season. The Club Person of the Year award will also be made as will the Hall of Fame award and the Player of the Year awards for Under 21, Junior and Intermediate.
